The Right Tools and Experience
Our team has professional-grade sanders, stains, varnishes, applicators, and other equipment to save your knees hours’ worth of pain and agony. We also have the experience to tell how severe the damage to your floor really is and what the best course of action may be. If you have a localized stain, warped boards, or an area where the stain or varnish didn’t quite take, we can often repair the area without the need to sand down the entire room. We can also complete quick surface finishes to refresh the finish and protect the wood, giving your floor back the sheen that you once loved.
What’s Involved?
Hardwood floors never go out of style, and with the right care they can last for a century. But your investment has to be protected from the daily grind, and what exactly that process involves will depend on your floor, its condition, and a few other important factors.
- Refinishing hardwood floors is a good option for floors that are in good structural shape but that have lost their sheen or gotten scuffed over time. Usually this damage is limited to the topcoat layer which can be easily replaced without damage to the wood beneath. The floor surface is normally sanded until the topcoat is gone and a new layer of stain and/or finish is applied overtop.
- If the wood underneath has also been damaged you may need to have your floor resurfaced. Resurfacing may involve replacing warped planks, countersinking loose nails, filling cracks, and grinding down cupped or crowned areas until they are level. Once that’s done the floor refinishing is done just like before.
- If your wood has been exposed to sunlight and has faded, we may suggest staining your floors during the refinishing. While adding a stain does add time and effort to the floor refinishing process, it can help to restore the color and tone your floor once processed.
